He was a well documented high school player at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio. His amazing high school career included three state titles and being named to the All-USA team three times. A few of his high school games were aired on ESPN2 and he appeared in several different national magazines which added to his overall exposure.

After graduating high school he did not attend college and instead entered the NBA draft. He was selected as the number one overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He did very well his first year as he averaged 20.9 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game for the season. Only three other players in the history of the NBA averaged at least 20 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds per game in their rookie years.
