This time of year we are all inundated with products and services to help us run faster, run more focused, run with priorities, run, run, run. The first step to A LIFE YOU LOVE is to stop running. How do we do that? Well, we look at the things we can delegate, delete, date out, or deliver and get it off our list once and for all.

Today we are going to talk about the first Step: Delegate. If you look at a list of all your weekly tasks, what can you delegate? Now, I know that this is a problem for us queens of control, a club I am a member of. However, many tasks can be done by someone else, if you are willing to pry off your own hands. You might try starting small, and then work up to bigger items.

One question that comes to the delegating mind is 'who'? Who am I going to delegate to? I suggest we look to the obvious candidates and then move forward. Who are the people in our daily lives who benefit from all the services and details we offer? Could it be our life partners, children, or even our parents? How about friends and members of clubs or committees were are on? How about neighbors? These are all ideas to get you started.

Hire help. Believe me, let go of the guilt of not doing things yourself, and hire quality help. Who could you hire and for what tasks? A house cleaning service for regular and/or heavy/seasonal cleaning (tidying up can be delegated to family members), is a good common stating point. How about someone to maintain/update your yard and law? Could you use a handyman to take care of all those annoying maintenance problems that nag at all of us (no your well kept secret isn't a secret, it is universal). Consider using a plumber for maintenance plumbing needs and not just emergencies. This should be a good list to help you get started.

How about the things you think you just have to do. Pay bills, file, and paperwork. Well, I am letting the cat out of the coaching bag. Smart coaches use Virtual Assistants. Thomas Leonard, the grandfather of coaching had a virtual assistant, and recommended the service to anyone who would listen. A virtual assistant is an independent contractor, whom works in their own space (not your home or office), using their own equipment. They can pay your bills (sorry you still need your own money), manage your email, assist you in setting up data bases, provide you with research, and the list goes on. The fees vary, as in all professions. Just to alleviate your guilt and control issues, my experience is that a virtual assistant will do a better job than you can do yourself. I have never been disappointed and I am usually amazed.

Here’s to taking care of yourself. Stop running and delegate, maybe you might just find some time for you.
