Businesses can target specific buyers and take advantage of impulse sales using point of sale material. These marketing tools come in a variety of shapes and colours designed to catch the eye of the shopper. Once that happens, there is a good chance that an impulse buy is just around the corner.

Point of sale material can be developed for any type of product or business.   Magazine, vending machines, gum or candy and newspaper stands are the most recognisable type of point of sale display. And while they are typically placed in a conspicuous position to attract attention, these displays are widely accepted as a standard type of advertising unit.

Point of sale material is a low cost strategy the retailer can use to target specific interest and buyers for particular brands, new product trials, and popular media events. Some displays even attract consumers to the point of sale stand specifically to purchase an item on display.

Point of sale materials come in a variety of colours and configurations.   One of the more popular designs for retail shops, cafes and restaurants are the A-boards signs positioned on the sidewalk to attract the pedestrian in for a quick coffee or a browse through the store. Another version of the A-board is a prop such as a bicycle with a blackboard menu propped next to it. There are many similar ideas that business owners can concoct that really don’t involve a huge investment at all.

There are times when a new business wants to garner specific attention and point of sale material is used to promote a product or service brand. The display is designed with brand colours and logos to attract a shopper and then invite them to a trial offer for new products or to participate in a contest. In the case of the contest, customers turn in contact information in exchange for a chance to win.

Point of sale material is used to get consumers in the store. Once they are there it's necessary to draw their attention and gently attract them to the main areas of your store where they can take in other promotions and products. Savvy store owners can stir their marketing strategy by using other point of sale material such as posters, flags and banners to persuade the shopper to sales racks and even to regular retail products.

Businesses don't have to hire a sales team to boost sales. They just need to apply some creative marketing strategies using point of sale materials. In many cases these props are portable, reusable and easily stored for another sale or seasonal display.
