Has modern TV come further than we ever thought possible?

There was once a time when we only had five TV channels to choose from, and if there was nothing interesting on TV, we'd have to occupy ourselves some other way. However, those days are long gone, and now TV is more advanced than anyone would have predicted 10 years ago. We can watch whatever we want, whenever we want, wherever we want, and we can even control live TV.

One of the most impressive things about TV is that nowadays you don't even have to be in front of your TV to watch it. There are ways of accessing your TV service online so that you can watch your favourite TV programmes on the go via a mobile, tablet or another portable device. This makes it easier to fit your TV viewing around your daily schedule, but there are other ways of doing this which don't require an extra device.

Most TV services now come with access to on demand content through your broadband router, so if you've missed a programme, or you just feel like watching something specific, you can watch it on your TV whenever you feel like it. The internet has completely changed the way in which we enjoy our TV service.

Another amazing thing about modern TV is that we aren't restricted to the TV schedule anymore. This isn't just in terms of on demand content, but also the programmes which are showing at the time. Certain digital boxes, such as the Sky+ box, allow us to pause and rewind TV, so we are no longer bothered by annoying interruptions. If we are going to miss a programme, we can record it and come back to it later, and we can even record an entire series at the touch of a button.

First there was black and white TV. Then there was colour TV. Now TV is being viewed in revolutionary ways, one of which is HD TV. Most TV boxes, such as the Sky+ box, are now HD ready. HD allows us to enjoy around 5 times more picture detail and more vivid colour and sound than ever before, giving us an unbeatable TV viewing experience. And as if that wasn't enough, we can get really absorbed into the action by watching TV in 3D, making everything on our screens look more realistic and exciting than ever. 3D has been around in cinemas for generations, but never before have we been able to enjoy it in our own homes.

Because there is so much choice of what to watch on TV these days, there's also a lot more potential for arguments over the TV remote. However, this is another problems which can easily be solved thanks to modern day technology. There are ways of having your TV service available in different rooms in your home, so that everyone can watch what they want. An example of this is Sky Multiroom. This allows you to purchase additional, smaller boxes which can be placed in other rooms of your home to connect different TVs to your Sky service, so if two programmes are on at the same time, they can be watched in separate rooms, so no more arguments over the TV.
