There are equally a great many charity programs that individual organizations set up in honour of their cause with the target of engineering donations from supporters or even from the general public This can be done in a series of ways; most obviously there are hundreds of charity shops throughout the UK high streets where unwanted household goods, clothes, games, DVDs, shoes, books, and jewellery are donated so that they can be sold on at a significantly reduced price, and the monetary contributions therefore received are passed on to fund the larger project for that particular charity.
Similarly, there are other means through which individuals can help generate a cash flow for the charitable organisation that is close to their heart. Many people work on a voluntary basis for charities, and they help to set up events in their local area such as bake sales, car boot sales, and bucket collections in the streets. It is a well-known phrase that each penny counts, but at times there is an unwavering need to collect so much more than pennies to fund and protect the cause.
Grant making is way that this can be done. Closely related to philanthropic giving, this is a means through which a substantial investment can be made for any charity or voluntary organisation. Far too often it is imagined that the lump sum of cash that may be deposited by any good-hearted philanthropist is instantly thrust into the cause. Of course, this is where the money is designated but there are other factors which must be accounted for to ensure the longevity of any organisation.
The very basics must also be funded, and in some cases this can mean salaries for consistent workers, but more than often it can mean providing a headquarters for the charity, a registered business address, paying for utilities such as electricity, and maintaining accounts, which is arguably the most important point of all!
At times, there is a bad aura surrounding philanthropy as it is deemed to be a fallacy in that the donor truly believes in supporting the cause and rather is making grants so as to further their public opinion. In fact, you do not need to be a rich or famous character in order to be recognised as a philanthropist, as the very existence of any charity has in effect been established by a philanthropist.
It is the desire to make a difference through charitable giving, which includes raising awareness and involving communities, that determines the status of true philanthropy. In modern times, those cash sums from anonymous donors are being regarded more and more as ‘gift-giving’.
