Many parents think that video games are nothing more than a waste of time. Moreover, they think that nobody has ever learned something useful from playing video game. Well, that is not true. Numerous studies have shown that kids can learn many useful things by participating in video games. How is that possible? Read and find out.
Reading skill
As a participant in the game, your kid wants to be a triumphant in the game. On the way to make his dream come true, he has to put en effort and interpret the commands given in the game. If he wants to go after the game’s story, he must read the directions in the game. So, young gamers force themselves to read the commands. The more they put into practice their reading, the better reading abilities they will develop. As we all know that practice makes things perfect. For an instance, when playing truck games they have to interpret the commands specified in the game, in order to transport the cargo in the correct locality.
Reasonable judgment
Games promote reasonable judgment. The player has to complete the goal by performing the required steps in chronological order. I’ll give you one illustration where reasonable judgment is required. Let’s say that one of the tasks of the game is to get into the house. The player has to use his logic and think about the steps needed to get into the house. The required steps are the following: find the right key, put in into the lock, turn the key and open the door. Each step is essential. The most important thing is that the steps must be done into the correct order. This gives the player great sense of logical thinking that can be implement into real life situations.
Decision - making skills
It’s a well known fact that video games are great tool for equipping the player’s mind with decision-making skills. At almost every step of any game, the player will be confronted with different kind of troubles and situations. He has to choose between two or more option available in the game. For an example, while fighting the battle the player has to make decision about the weapon he is going to use, the strategy he is going to apply etc.
Ability to pay attention to small details
Playing a game requires lots of attentiveness from the player. He has to pay attention to every little detail on the screen. For an example, playing a truck game requires a big level of alertness. The player has to be careful to stay on the path without killing the pedestrians. Also he has to be careful to stay on the road without being crashed by other drivers.
Money managing
Video games offer countless opportunities for teaching the kid about money managing. The players have to create their own budget with guidance how to spend their money. According to that plan, the player may waste money on some expensive equipment and be short on cash for other things. Or he may save the money for emergency needs. It’s up to him. He is the one that is responsible for his own budget. This means that the player learns to gain control over his money.
It’s obvious that kids can benefit a lot from playing video game. However, don’t forget to set a limit to the screening time and give them other options of entertainment and education.
