Pit bikes are simply a smaller version of a motorbike and have become very popular in recent years. They are mainly used for racing, which has become a widely participated in sport, especially in Southern California in America. Other countries regularly partake in it too. Its success began to rocket since the early 2000s and many models have be brought out since then.

You need to consider a number of different factors when choosing a pit bike to purchase. There are many different models, colours and designs on offer, some of which have varying features and can go up to different speeds. If it is your first bike, then it is best to stick to a lower budget and try and get used to riding it in case you decide you don’t like it or aren’t good at it.

Many Pit Bikes range from 90cc to 160cc. The prices can vary depending on the retailer, although generally start from around £400 and go up to £1000. Prices either side of this may also be available. It is worth looking online for cheaper deals though, as many internet based retailers offer lower prices. Shop around to find the best deal as chances are there will be a lower price elsewhere. If you go into a store, you can get advice from a shop assistant who should be expert in the field, so you can then go away and compare prices online before making a purchase. It may even be worth going for a second hand one to start with especially. Try eBay, Gumtree or ads in the newspaper to look for these. Be sure that they do have all the relevant paperwork though and have been checked to safety standards. You can also book an independent check with a professional yourself before you buy it just to be on the safe side.

It is important to also kit yourself out with the relevant safety wear, such as head gear, gloves and leathers. This will help to protect you against any scrapes, falls or more serious accidents, so that the impact can be minimised and therefore the extent of the injuries too. You need to abide by any safety rules and take care when riding. You must not ride it on the road without a license, as these models are mainly for off road riding, such as competitions and stunts. It is worth having lessons to start with so you can get to grips with the basics and learn how to ride safely so that you do not injure yourself or others. Go for a basic and slower pit bike to start with if you are a beginner, then you can progress to a faster or more expensive version. It is worth taking time when choosing which model to purchase.
